One By One

Childlike love

A five-year-old girl stands crying in a toy-store. She has found a teddy bear caught below the bottom shelf. It’s dirty and slightly torn on the face, with only half of the nose hanging on.
She immediately takes to the bear and wants to buy it with her pocket money but her mother tells her she’s not allowed to spend her money on something old and dirty, but would rather she buys one of the new bears sat neatly on the shelf.
Heartbroken, the girl has to leave the bear, she carefully places him back up on the shelf and promises to return and buy him next week if mummy will let her.

I never was allowed to buy him! From a young age God put something within me that I couldn’t explain at the time, it was a love for the unlovely. I was saved at nine and filled with the Holy Spirit at 14, but my life didn’t really change until one evening in May 2004.

God’s operating table

After visiting Brownsville church in Pensacola, Florida, God gave me a huge anesthetic and laid me on His theatre table for hours, being radically transformed from the inside out. I got up a different person. A revelation of His love for me overwhelmed my heart and in response all I could do was fall in love with Him more and more. From this point on my life gained new direction. In the summer of 2005 whilst spending three months in Mozambique at Heidi Baker’s school of missions, God unveiled a scripture to me that was to map out my life:

Ezekiel 47 v 12: Along the bank of the river, on this side and that, will grow all kinds of trees used for food; their leaves will not wither, and their fruit will not fail. They will bear fruit every month, because their water flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for medicine.

God clearly spoke to me through the verse so I came home, quit my job and enrolled in a nursing course at university.

One By One birthed

Then in April of 2006 “Shake the Nations One by One” was birthed and the first feeding program was launched. The heart of One by One was literally as simple as that, to stop for the one!

The VisionBecky Feeding Child

So many times we excuse ourselves from Gods service because we’re not advanced enough, anointed enough, educated enough or maybe simply not bothered enough! Moses, Gideon and many other mighty characters in the bible made the same excuses, but interestingly when they voiced these insecurities to God His response was simply - I am with You! The same applies to us today. In my strength I can’t run anything, I’m no good with words, I’m petrified when having to speak in public and I have about as much common sense as a sheep!

However, God has given me the vision and commissioned me to go into all the world and preach the gospel, so that’s what One by One does! The unique thing about One by One is we both speak to the multitudes running the children’s crusades and going into the out-back villages preaching the gospel and we stop for literally one.  The day we’re too busy to stop for one broken, dying person (adult or child) is the day we’re simply too busy!

Though you probably have an hectic life please remember all excuses will fade away when we’re stood before the Almighty and He asks you why you never stopped to love the one in front of you.  That “one” may be across the street or around the world, wherever they are or whatever they look like, please remember to stop and love the one in front of you. One at a time you really will see nations shaken by His love!
